Scent Work Committee

Purpose/Charter

The Scent Work Committee for MASCUSA is dedicated to promoting, educating, and providing opportunities to MASCUSA members in the AKC Performance Sport of Scent Work. The Committee is tasked with promoting Scent Work at Nationals and effectively engaging MASCUSA members through channels such as the Tuesday Talk and Facebook page.

The Scent Work Committee will recognize MASCUSA member Scent Work achievements, including:

  • Teams that have achieved their Overall Master Scent Work Title
  • Teams that have earned their Detective Titles
  • Teams that have attained their Master Handler Discrimination Title
  • Teams that have obtained Elite Titles
  • Teams that have qualified for Scent Work Regionals/Nationals (pending AKC resumption)

Membership

The committee shall consist of a minimum of three (3) and a maximum of seven (7) members.

Responsibilities

  • Committee Chair: Represents the committee at MASCUSA Board meetings and call for meetings.
  • Secretary: Records meeting minutes and maintains a log of members.
  • Communications: Publishes articles and other relevant communications.

Meetings

The committee will hold meetings at bi-monthly via conference calls, with additional meetings scheduled as needed. The Secretary is responsible for maintaining a copy of the meeting minutes and distributing them to the members. The Committee Chair may invite directors, officers, staff members, experts, or other advisors who are not committee members to attend meetings. However, these individuals do not have voting rights.

The committee will review its charter at least annually and propose any recommended changes to the board for review.
