Notice: Registration now through Stock Dog Registry Services ONLY

Effective June 1, 2016
MASCUSA ended their registry services in 2016 per the agreement with AKC, however, the AKC studbook for this breed remains open. In order to protect the integrity of the stud book and maintain continuity of services, Traci Phillips, our past registrar, established Stock Dog Registry Services, LLC through which all the MASCUSA registry services will be continued.

This includes pedigree verification process for dogs entering the American Kennel Club as Miniature American Shepherds (MAS) as well as registering litters for offspring of various approved registry crosses for Miniature Australian Shepherds that wish to enter the AKC registry.

Stock Registry Services is the only registry selected by MASCUSA through which dogs can be registered with AKC. However, according to the contract between MASCUSA and SDRS, and as done before, only those dogs registered with MASCUSA approved registries will be eligible for AKC registration utilizing SDRS.

SDRS only offers registry services. Memberships and other club related documents will continue to be mailed to MASCUSA and payments for those processes will be made to MASCUSA.

SDRS is a separate entity monies for registry services must be paid to SDRS, and the SDRS forms need to be used. Information and forms may be found on the Stock Dog Registry Services website. PayPal invoice will be sent from Stock Dog Registry Services.

If you have questions please email Traci Phillips or visit the Stock Dog Registry Services website.

Again, please make checks payable to SDRS and mail all registry process to:

Is my litter eligible for registration with NAMASCUSA?

If both parents are registered with AKC as Miniature American Shepherds or Australian Shepherds, you must use the AKC litter registration process. This applies to foreign-born litters* also.

Your litter is eligible for registration with NAMASCUSA if:

  • both parents have current registration as a Miniature Australian Shepherd, Toy Australian Shepherd, Miniature American Shepherd, or Australian Shepherd with one of the following registries: NAMASCUSA, AKC, ASCA, NSDR, the Canadian Kennel Club, MASCA, ASDR, IMASC, or foreign registries recognized by AKC except that
  • litters whelped on or after January 1, 2015, cannot have an Australian Shepherd parent. An Aussie grandparent or great-grandparent is OK.

* Foreign-born litters between two AKC Miniature American Shepherds follow the same rules and process as litters born in the USA. This policy was implemented by AKC because the Miniature American Shepherd is an American developed breed which is not currently recognized in other countries. Foreign-born litters of this breed may continue to be directly submitted to AKC upon full recognition. This policy will remain in effect until such time as each individual foreign country recognizes this breed. Upon recognition by an individual foreign country, these litters will be required to be submitted to that country's recognized registry.

Is my AKC Australian Shepherd eligible to convert to an AKC Miniature American Shepherd?

AKC will no longer accept applications to convert Australian Shepherds to Miniature American Shepherds.

When will the studbook close?

Closed Studbook: Enrollment of dogs into AKC stop ? only a litter between two AKC Miniature American Shepherds may be registered.

There are no plans to close the AKC Miniature American Shepherd studbook!

MASCUSA will continue to verify pedigrees for Miniature or Toy Australian Shepherds wishing to register as AKC Miniature American Shepherds. See information above under question #1 for eligibility.
